1 If the LORD had not been on our side—

who has not let us be torn by their teeth.

It's basically saying if we didn't have the lord by our side then we wouldn't be here. We wouldn't have Him to make us and love us this whole world would be nothing. There would be no cross to save our sins. We wouldn't have a bible to read on our daily devotions.
There would be no us.
